From Paws to Prints: Top 5 Pet Portrait Questions (Part 2)

You had more questions—so we answered them!

If you caught Part 1 of From Paws to Prints, you already know that pet portraits are about so much more than getting your dog to “sit and smile.” In Part 2, we’re answering five more of the most common questions we hear from pet parents who want artwork they’ll treasure forever.

1. What should my pet wear (or not wear)?

Less is usually more. Collars, bandanas, or accessories are totally optional, but we recommend keeping things simple and timeless. Neutral tones or classic leather collars photograph beautifully and won’t distract from your pet’s expression.

If you’re unsure, bring a couple of options—we’ll help you decide during your design session.

2. How long does a pet portrait session take?

Pet sessions are designed to be flexible and unhurried, typically lasting anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour. We allow plenty of time for breaks, movement, and adjusting based on your pet’s energy level. There’s no rushing here—our goal is a calm, positive experience that results in natural, expressive portraits.

A relaxed pet always photographs best.

3. What if my pet doesn’t listen well?

Good news: your pet does not need to be perfectly trained. Our photographers are experienced with pets of all personalities—energetic, shy, stubborn, or somewhere in between. We move at your pet’s pace, use patience (and treats!), and capture genuine moments instead of forcing poses.

Some of the most meaningful portraits come from letting your pet just be themselves.

4. What happens after the session?

After your session, you’ll be invited to an exclusive reveal session, where we help you select your favorite images and guide you through creating artwork for your home. From framed wall art to heirloom prints, this is where your portraits truly come to life.

We’ll help you choose pieces that fit your style, space, and story.

5. Do you offer indoor and outdoor pet portrait options?

We offer both indoor and outdoor pet portrait options, depending on the season and what works best for you and your pet. Our indoor studio is ideal for clean, timeless portraits and a calm, controlled environment. During the warmer months, we also take advantage of the flower field and wooded areas just behind our studio, which are perfect for capturing natural, relaxed images of you and your pup outdoors.

Whether you prefer studio portraits, outdoor images, or a mix of both, we’ll help you choose the option that best fits your pet’s personality and your vision.

Ready to Go From Paws to Prints?

Pet portraits are about so much more than getting a good photo—they’re about preserving the bond, personality, and moments that make your pet such an important part of your life. Whether your session happens in the studio or outdoors, with playful energy or quiet connection, every detail is thoughtfully designed to create artwork that feels meaningful and lasting.

If you’ve been on the fence or still have questions, know that we’re here to guide you every step of the way. When you’re ready, we’d love to help you turn those everyday moments with your pet into portraits you’ll treasure for years to come.
